MarchersOn Friday, January 16, students from No Place for Hate, the Youth Leader Program, and the Black Student Union proudly participated in the 49th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. March at Knox Middle School. The theme of this year’s walk—building community—aligned closely with the values we embrace at Lewis Middle School.  Students shared meaningful reflections from the experience, noting that they learned “how important community is,” especially when bringing together people of different cultures and backgrounds. They also expressed a deeper understanding of the importance of speaking up when our rights, or the rights of others, are at risk. While using our voices can sometimes feel intimidating, students recognized that “we need to take risks to show up for others” and that courage is essential in creating positive change.
