Ms. Allison is Lewis Middle School's 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year!
Walking into Olivia Allison’s 7th-grade science classroom, you aren’t just entering a lab; you’re entering a "sweet spot" of middle school discovery. It is this dedication to the "awkward, curious, and wonderful" middle years that has earned Ms. Allison the prestigious title of 25-26 Teacher of the Year—the second time she has received this honor at Lewis Middle School.
A Journey Rooted in Growth
Ms. Allison’s path to the classroom began with a choice between two frontiers: she was either going to be a high school biology teacher or an astronaut. While NASA’s loss was our gain, she found her true calling after graduating from UCSD. Though she initially aimed for high school, a middle school opening revealed her passion for the unique energy of 7th and 8th graders.
"I realized I really like this place between 6th graders who want to please their teachers and 8th graders gaining independence," she shares. "7th grade is my sweet spot; they really start to challenge ideas and get curious."
More Than Just a Science Teacher
What sets Ms. Allison apart is her growth mindset. Colleagues highlight her ability to evolve, ensuring her teaching never hits a plateau. From being an early leader in TELL initiatives to her deep commitment to inclusive classrooms for students with IEPs, she ensures every child feels safe and seen.
Reaching beyond the four walls of her classroom, Ms. Allison is a pillar of the Lewis community. Whether she is coaching the soccer team to get it off the ground or collaborating with her science department "dream team," she takes ownership of the entire school's success. Ms. Allison has made significant contributions to the integration of Restorative Practices at Lewis, highlighted by the addition of our Youth Leadership Program (YLP).
Why Lewis?
Though she doesn’t live within the boundaries, Lewis is her neighborhood school. Between coaching local sports and leading Girl Scout programs, her roots here are deep. "The kids who are excited to see me and share their wins... that fills my bucket," she says.
